Peter /Πέτρος

Upon a question that Jesus asked his disciples, on whom do they say He is, Simon Peter replied that He is Christ, the Son of the living God. Then Jesus said “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church” [1]

Let’s stand on these two words in bold that are connected with the “and”.

In Greek new testament is written “κἀγὼ δέ σοι λέγω ὅτι σὺ εἶ Πέτρος, καὶ ἐπὶ ταύτῃ τῇ πέτρᾳ οἰκοδομήσω μου τὴν ἐκκλησίαν” [2]

The name Peter is of Greek origins, which on its turn is a translation of the aramaic word Cephas ( definition: rock) [3] . Written in Greek “Πέτρος” ( pronunciation: pehtrohs, definition stone, rock) [4]. This name is related to the noun “petra” [5], written in Greek “πέτρα” (definition: stone, rock).
