Let’s study one of the widely known verses which is found in Mark 10:25 “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” (NKJV)

In the Greek New Testament is written “εὐκοπώτερόν ἐστι κάμηλον διὰ τρυμαλιᾶς ραφίδος εἰσελθεῖν ἢ πλούσιον εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰσελθεῖν.” [1]

The word “κάμηλος” (pronunciation: kamelos, definition: camel) [2] is a masculine/feminine gender noun deriving from Proto-Semitic *gamal- [3]

According to the Academic Byzantinologist Hélène Glykatzi-Ahrweiler, though, the correct meaning on this specific bible verse would be given with the use of the masculine noun “κάμιλος” ( definition: rope) [4], [5]
